The magazine's mission statement: "Required Reading strives to raise awareness on issues of global health with the hope of encouraging action. We believe that the first step to building a responsible society is creating conscientious and informed citizens. Within the Tufts community and beyond, it is essential that students stay informed about the health issues of our time so that we can achieve a basis for dialogue, not only between friends and colleagues but also between countries and leaders. Through the use of articles, photographs and interviews, we delve into each crisis so that it may be analyzed from many different perspectives. Too often, grave health issues and their connection with human rights are ignored and neglected. The goals of Required Reading is to bring these issues to light and into the forum for meaningful discussion, thereby initiating action that can bring about real change."
